Gujarat NRE Minerals Limited, incorporated
in October 2004, is a subsidiary of Gujarat NRE Coke
Limited, the largest manufacturer of Low Ash Metallurgical
Coke in India. Gujarat NRE is involved in mining, processing
and marketing of world class coal products. The Company
owns and operates the mine, NRE No. 1 Colliery (formerly know as South Bulli Colliery), spreading over 6421hector with reserves
of over 300 million tonnes of coking coal
and located in the Southern Coalfields of New South
Wales, Australia. It holds the consolidated coal lease
and other mining tenements which include mining purpose
lease and exploration license to the NRE No. 1 Colliery.
The colliery is surrounded to the north, south and
west by other collieries.
The mine is located at a distance of 14 km from the Kembla Port Terminal in the Southern Coalfields of the New South Wales Coalfields.
Gujarat NRE acquired the Mining Lease from the previous owners of the Mining Lease, Bellpac Pty Ltd (Bellpac). The lease comprises an extensive underground area, much of which is overlain by Cataract Reservoir Catchment Area the land of which is owned by the Sydney Catchment Authority (SCA).
Gujarat NRE has acquired the Coal Leases namely Consolidated Coal Lease 745 (CCL), Mining Purposes Lease 271 (MPL) and Exploration License 5932 (EL). CCL is for 64 km 2 area and is valid till December 2023 which was renewed in December 2002 for 21 years. These leases have since been transferred in the name of GNAL. These coal leases give GNAL the rights for carrying out the various mining and exploration activities in the three seams namely Bulli Seam, Balgownie Seam and Wongawilli Seam.
Gujarat NRE has invested
significant amount for the development of the mine.
The Colliery is being developed like a completely
new mine employing the best of human resources and
high quality infrastructure with excellent mining
conditions. This will also help in the development
of area around the mine and lead to better employment
opportunities and living conditions. The mine started
with an initial production target of 1 million metric tonnes
per annum. It will be further developed in phases to mine over
4 millions metric tonnes per annum.

Mr Arun Kumar Jagatramka [Chairman, , BCom (Hons), FCA, AIMM]
Mr Arun Kumar Jagatramka is a qualified Chartered Accountant with an all India 1st rank and gold medal. He has an industrial experience of more than a decade in production of coal and coke, besides a prior experience in management consultancy and merchant banking.
Mr Arun Kumar Jagatramka is the Chairman and Managing Director of Gujarat NRE Coke Limited. Under his able guidance, Gujarat NRE Coke, established in 1994, has become the largest independent producer of Met Coke in India – the only Indian entity to have moved backward into coal mine ownership in Australia and forward into steel making, coupled with wind energy and waste heat power generation. The Compounded Annual Growth of the company since inception is to the tune of 50% approx.
A visionary of rare distinction, he has spearheaded the move by establishing Gujarat NRE Minerals Ltd. in 2004, a company involved in mining operations in Australia. Gujarat NRE Minerals Ltd owns and operates NRE No. 1 colliery and NRE Wongawilli Colliery in Wollongong currently. In a space of just a few years, the Company under his chairmanship has acquired world class hard coking coal resources in excess of 500 million tonnes.
Mr Arun Kumar Jagatramka is a member of a number of boards, like Pike River Coal Ltd, New Zealand, where Gujarat NRE group holds cornerstone stakes.
Mr Jagatramka has been appointed as an honorary NSW “Sydney Ambassador” to India by the Govt. of New South Wales, Australia. He is a member of the New South Wales-Asia Business Council under the department of State and Regional Development.

Mrs. Mona Jagatramka, aged about 42 years is the Director of M/s Gujarat NRE Australia Pty. Ltd. and Gujarat NRE FCGL Pty Ltd. She has more than 10 years of experience in management & administration affairs. She is Graduate in Home Science. She is actively associated in the Management of the businesses and looks after the Human Resources and support managerial services of Gujarat NRE Group.
Dr Andrew Edwin Firek [Director, MSc, Ph D, FAusIMM, FAIE]
Dr Firek has been involved in mining and mineral processing for over 25 years. His experience includes managing of process development, construction, commissioning and operations of coal, base and precious metals plants in Europe, Africa and Australia. He worked in Europe and Africa as a United Nations expert in fossil fuels exploration, mineral processing and energy generation. Dr Firek is also familiar with downstream processing of oil and gas that helps in evaluating feasibility of `fuel resources. Dr Firek was a Group Leader at the CSIRO, Division of Fossil Fuels in Sydney engaged in developing technologies to produce liquid fuels from coal. He was Project Director at Memtec Ltd, following which he joined Pancontinental Mining Ltd where he was Research and Development Manager involved in substantial mineral resources projects including base and precious metals, uranium and the development and commissioning of an AUD$220 million magnesia production facility near Rockhampton in Queensland. He worked on site during construction and commissioning for 12 months. Dr Firek was a director of mineral residue processing group Hydromet Technologies Ltd. He also was founding Executive Director of the listed company, Allegiance Mining NL that later discovered Tasmania’s largest nickel sulphide deposit.
Mr Maurice Anghie [Non Executive Director and Chair of the Audit Committee, , BBus, FCA, FCPA, MAICD]
Mr Anghie is an experienced financially qualified professional possessing a range of commercial/financial skills and legal/regulatory and governance expertise, who has worked extensively in the corporate environment Mr Anghie is an audit and corporate finance partner with Bentleys MRI and advises over 18 public listed companies ranging from mining to manufacturing. He has been an audit partner in chartered accounting for over 20 years and has had extensive experience in being on audit committees and on matters of corporate governance of many listed companies.He also has extensive knowledge of overseas countries, having provided consulting services in Indonesia, Malaysia, China etc. on behalf of listed public companies and the Asian Development Bank.

Dr Chris Harvey has a PhD in Mining Engineering from Wollongong University, alongwith a range of additional qualifications in Management & Environmental Studies. In 1983 after working as a Mining Engineer in the Illawarra coal mining industry he joined the New South Wales Department of Mineral Resources as a Mining Engineer and Senior Environment Officer and was appointed as an Inspector under the Mining Act 1992. This involved various statutory and operational responsibilities for a wide range of coal mining related matters, particularly in the Southern and Western Coalfields of New South Wales and involved the assessment of Environmental Impact Statements and Subsidence Management Plans. Dr Harvey joined Gujarat NRE Australia Pty Ltd in early 2006 as Mining Superintendent for the NRE No.1 and the NRE Avondale Collieries. His qualifications, skills and experience are viewed as a real benefit
in gaining necessary approvals and consents to keep the mines operating and where necessary gain additional consents, titles and government approvals. He is a member of the Australasian Institute of Mining & Metallurgy; a member of the Institution of Engineers Australia, a member of the Australian Institute or Management & a Member of the Society of Mining Metallurgy & Exploration (America).
Mr Naveen Kumar Nanda is a Fellow Chartered Accountant from India and CPA Australia with more than 10 years of extensive working experience at various positions ranging from Accounts and Financial Manager to Chief Manger Finance with highly reputed Indian companies. Naveen has also been in professional practice as a self-employed Chartered Accountant providing financial and taxation consultancy, auditing, handling and supervising complex accounts in India. In addition, he has around 4 years of local experience as a senior auditor & accountant with reputed Sydney based CPA firm providing auditing, financial and taxation services to businesses in Australia.
Mr Don Jephcott has a Bachelor of Science with 40 years experience in environmental matters. For the last 29 years he has worked at this mine site so he has a solid understanding of enviromental issues at this site. Previously he worked with the Environmental Protection Agency and the department of Conservation.
Mr Sanjay Sharma is a Management Graduate from the University of Canberra with over 10 years of experience in business management. He held various senior positions in two companies before joining Gujarat NRE Minerals Limited as a Company Secretary in 2004. He is also Company Secretary in other group of companies in Australia including Gujarat NRE Limited and Gujarat NRE FCGL Pty Ltd. |

Whilst the Company will endeavour to comply with all of the guidelines under the ASX Corporate Governance Council’s “Principles of Good Corporate Governance and Best Practice Recommendations”, the Board considers that the Company is not currently of a size, nor are its affairs of such complexity, to justify the additional expense of compliance with all recommendations. The Board will consider on an ongoing basis its corporate governance procedures and whether they are sufficient given the Company’s nature of operations and size. |
